FAQ
Before you apply.
What is the hackathon about?
Building AI that understands human context: software that reads a person’s state — focus, stress, cognitive load — on their own device, and adapts to it.
Who can apply?
Developers, ML engineers, designers, and students in Ethiopia, including ALX fellows and alumni. Beginners and experienced builders are both welcome.
When and where is it?
One weekend in November 2026, Saturday 09:00 to Sunday demos, at ALX Lideta Hub, 4th Floor · Addis Ababa. The exact dates will be announced soon and emailed to applicants.
Does it cost anything?
No. It’s free for accepted participants, with meals and refreshments included.
Do I need a wearable or special hardware?
No. Behavioral signals from a phone or laptop are enough, and the Synheart CLI generates mock signal streams. Bring a laptop; wearables are optional.
Can I come without a team?
Yes. Apply solo or as a team of 2–4. Solo applicants are matched into teams at kickoff.
What will I build with?
Synheart’s Human State Interface: the Core SDK, behavioral signal SDK, and CLI. Use any language or stack on top — mentors will help you get set up.
How are projects judged?
Against Synheart’s challenge rubric, shared at kickoff, by mentors from Synheart and Snapwre. Expect emphasis on real use of human state, privacy, and a working demo.
What are the prizes?
Prize tiers and developer grants are being finalized with sponsors and will be announced before the event.
